The imam a Texas community already calls, training in the clinical side too

Shaykh Salah Mahmoud is Imam and Religious Director of the Islamic Center of Frisco, in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, where he has led the community since 2019. He has served as an imam for more than fifteen years, before Frisco with the Muslim American Society and the Jamaica Muslim Center in New York City. He sits on the North Texas Imam Council.

Born in Egypt, he completed memorization of the Qur’an at ten and went on to a BA in Islamic Sciences and Theology from Al-Azhar University. He is a certified chaplain with the New York State Chaplaincy Task Force. He is also completing a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of West Alabama.

Families in North Texas already bring him their marriages, their grief and their doubt. The counseling degree means he knows where an imam’s work ends and a clinician’s begins, and can say so plainly in the room.

What he works with

Marriage and family
The spiritual care a community imam is handed most, now with a licensed therapist in the same room and a shared plan.
The religious question underneath
Al-Azhar training and fifteen years of pulpits: “is this even permitted” gets an answer, not a deflection.
Grief and loss
Chaplaincy certification and years of janazahs, hospital rooms and the weeks after.
Working beside clinicians
A counseling degree in progress means he already speaks the therapist’s language and knows the line between the two seats.
